Origin story: A doodle a day keeps the doldrums away
When the iPad first came out, it was a new art tool, and an artist friend created a group on Facebook called iPad Painters. My main delight was creating what we referred to as “People of the Pad”—portraits of non existent people. I thought of them as untold stories. It became a daily passion and I doodled as I listened to audio books.
As I progressed on my digital journey, I incorporated more design. That shift created a unique style—one in which shape and alignment played a major role. It had a distinct geometric look. Then came organic black blob doodles, where I closed my eyes, drew a random shape with a thick brush, and opened them to imagine where it might take me. Eventually, I refined some of my experiments into full-blown illustrations. They all shared a whimsical feeling I liked, so here’s a sampling from the archive.
